The message was posted this morning, and was quickly followed by another tweet five minutes later which simply read: “#RipJackBlack.”
A third tweet read: “It is with a heavy heart I am to announce that Jack Black passed away last night at 3:37am. The cause of death is yet unknown.”
However, hours later a representative for the duo has confirmed to Express.co.uk that it was all a hoax.
“Jack Black is alive and well. Tenacious D’s twitter was hacked and we have regained control over the page,” they said.
The statement comes after more tweets on the band’s page read: “Calm down guys! It’s just a prank bro,” which was followed by: “The Legend is still alive, it is ok guys.”
A number of media outlets had previously reported that the actor died on Friday following a fall in New Zealand.
Apparently, an R.I.P. Jack Black Facebook page states: “At about 11 a.m. ET on Friday (June 03, 2016), our beloved actor Jack Black passed away.
“Jack Black was born on August 28, 1969 in Santa Monica. He will be missed but not forgotten.
“Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
WE had our Twitter account hacked. We can assure you that Jack is ALIVE and WELL and that this was a sick "prank".

Unsurprisingly, fans of the actor also took to Twitter to insist the reports of Jack’s death were nothing more than a cruel hoax.
One Twitter user wrote: “Jack Black is alive. It’s a hoax. So chill.”
Another posted: “If this Jack Black news is a practical joke or a hack then it’s a really low act.”
“Is Jack Black actually dead, or did @RealTenaciousD account get hacked?” one more tweet read.
Yesterday, Jack’s publicist was forced to confirm he was alive following the Facebook claims.
According to MediaMass, Jack’s rep said: “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet.”
The last official Facebook post from the band showed Jack and bandmate Kyle Gass at the Rock am Ring music festival in Germany, and was posted on Friday – which would make it highly unlikely for Jack to be on the other side of the world in New Zealand.
