'Jack Reacher' Trailer: Tom Cruise Is No Hero

The new “Jack Reacher” trailer wants to tell audiences one thing: Tom Cruise is not a hero. “Do you think I’m a hero?” Cruise snorts after one of his colleagues is kidnapped. “I am not a hero.”

Based on the popular novel series by author Lee Child, “Jack Reacher” stars Cruise as the title character, an ex-military operative turned vigilante, who acts a little bit like like Liam Neeson in “Taken.” (You’ll notice all those threatening phone calls.) In Child’s source books, Reacher is described as being six-foot-five, but the new trailer for “Jack Reacher” should alleviate any concerns fans might have about Cruise’s smaller stature, as well as his tough-guy bona fides; the 50-year-old kicks, stomps, drives, shoots and punches his way through a host of bad guys, as his character attempts to unravel a conspiracy involving a sniper accused of killing five people and a villain played by director Werner Herzog. (Of course.)

“Jack Reacher” is due out in theaters on Dec. 21. Cruise, Herzog, Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike, the suddenly everywhere David Oyelowo, Jai Courtney and Richard Jenkins all star.
