Janet Jackson's "Unbreakable" Album Earns Her A No. 1 Album For The 7th Time

In relatively unsurprising news, comeback queen Janet Jackson debuts atop the Billboard 200 with Unbreakable, her first new studio album in a whopping seven years. Despite being somewhat underwhelming commercially in the 00s, Jackson was consistently good for topping the chart (four top-two debuting albums), including number one debuts with All For You (2001) and Discipline (2008). According to Billboard, Unbreakable gives “Ms. Jackson” a historic seventh no. 1 album. Props are definitely due to the iconic pop/R&B artist.

So much ado is made about Jackson’s seventh no. 1 for good reason, but what about the numbers? For a 49-year old artist on an extended hiatus, the 116,000 units that Unbreakable moved – 94% of which were pure sales – are respectable. Compared to Jackson’s numbers of the past, clearly underwhelming. Still, not many artists – particularly R&B artists can muster up six figures, so those kudos are still in order for Jackson.
