Jay Z’s Six-Part Documentary Series ‘Time’ Offers Up First Trailer

Spike TV has released the trailer for “Time: The Kalief Browder Story,” a documentary series produced by Jay Z and Weinstein Television. The six-part series focuses on the life of a young African-American student who spent three years on Rikers Island without ever being convicted of a crime.

Browder was a 16-year old from the Bronx when he was arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack. The chargers were dropped three years later, but after Browder’s release from Rikers, he took his own life.

“Time” exposes problems in the criminal justice system and tells Browder’s story through first-person accounts, archival footage, and cinematic recreations of key moments from his life. The series also includes interviews from those connected to the story, including politicians, friends and family members and social reformers.

“Kalief Browder is a modern day prophet; his story a failure of the judicial process,” Jay Z said in a previous statement about the series. “His tragedy has brought atrocities to light and now we must confront the issues and events that occurred so other young men can have a chance at justice.”

The first installment of “Time: The Kalief Browder Story” will air on Spike TV on Wednesday, March 1. To watch the trailer for the series, see the video below.
