Most of the victims of this mass shooting were members of the local Hispanic community, and in their honor, Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda have recorded a song together.
It’s called “Love Make the World Go Round,” and while a release date is yet to be announced, a preview hit the web this Monday.
It was J-Lo that shared the clip of Lin-Manuel and her in the studio, along with the caption, “Me and @Lin_Manuel working in studio on something very special… #LMTWGR #LoveMakeTheWorldGoRound #happy4thofJuly.”
“What we got is love even when the sinners hate us / We cannot let them diminish or intimidate us / We sing out, we got the rhythm and the true on our side / We cut through the divide and we do it with pride,” Lim-Manuel raps.
Then, J-Lo joins him for the chorus and delivers the lyrics that also make up the song’s title: “Love Make the World Go Round.”
Why record this song
Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Love Make the World Go Round” is more than just a track in tribute to the people who were killed in last month’s mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
It’s also an attempt to raise funds for Proyecto Somos Orlando, a charity started by Orlando’s Hispanic Community to offer support to people suffering from mental health problems.
As mentioned, J-Lo and Lin-Manuel haven’t so far announced a release date for the track. When the song does come out, though, all proceeds will be donated to Proyecto Somos Orlando, NME explains.
“Proceeds from the song go to the charity Proyecto Somos Orlando, a charity set up by the Hispanic community in Orlando to address mental health needs. The Hispanic community was especially hit hard by the Pulse shootings, with 95% of the victims being Latino.”
In the short clip she shared on Twitter yesterday, Jennifer Lopez says the song will be released via iTunes. When this happens, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
