Jessica Simpson Claims Her Biggest 'Money Mistake' Was Marrying Nick Lachey

They were a nineties power couple, but Jessica Simpson (and her bank balance) has more than a few regrets about marrying Nick Lachey.

The singer turned businesswoman, whose clothing and lifestyle company The Jessica Simpson Collection is valued at more than $1bn, said her marriage to the former boybander was her biggest financial mistake.

“The biggest money mistakes? I don’t know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage,” she said while appearing on CNBC’s Closing Bell.

Host Kelly Evans replied: “That’s actually a common answer believe it or not.

The couple were married from 2002 to 2005, and dated for four years before that.

They never signed a prenuptial agreement with a source telling People at the time that Simpson was urged not to sign one as her husband-to-be out earned her at the time.

At the time of their separation, Jessica’s net worth was estimated at $35m, while Nick’s was $5m. The final settlement was never revealed but it was reportedly less than half of their combined fortune to avoid a legal drama.

They have both moved on with Lachey marrying tv presenter Vanessa, whom he has two children Camden (two) and Brooklyn (eight months) with; while Simpson is married to former NFL player Eric Johnson and also has two children Maxwell Drew (three) and Ace Knute (two).

Meanwhile, Jessica added to CNBC: “I always say I’m ready for another billion.”

“I still think that people don’t take me completely seriously,” she added, while celebrating her collection’s 10th anniversary in New York earlier this week.

“I have some doubters out there. But hopefully we’ll continue to be about ten years from now and they’ll be wrong.”
