Who knew the drama surrounding the trapped Chilean miners would make for such a star-studded movie? Apparently The 33 is now on the cinematic fast track and it’s got Jennifer Lopez in a leading role.
The 33, of course, is in reference to Los 33 (aka the 33 men who spent 69 days buried in a shaft in 2010). Their rescue scored big headlines and now a heavily polished Hollywood script.
Girl In Progress’ Patricia Riggen has signed on as the project’s director along with Rodrigo Santoro and Martin Sheen, who will also be a part of the ensemble cast. The film will reportedly be financed by Chilean entrepreneurs Carlos Eugeno Lavin and Leopoldo Enriquez.
And how about the most famous miner of them all? “Super” Mario Sepulveda (who charmed the American press with his charismatic personality) will be a major part of the plot and played by Antonio Banderas.
