be honest, we’re thrilled with the television landscape today. Never before have there been so many shows with multicultural casts, same-sex storylines and unconventional family themes. And interestingly enough, Jennifer Lopez’ new series, The Fosters, is incorporating all three.
Set to premiere on ABC Family in the fall, The Fosters features multi-ethnic kids being raised by two moms. Teri Polo and Sherri Saum play the family matriarchs and Girl In Progress’ Cierra Ramirez will star as one of the daughters.
ABC Family exec Michael Riley was thrilled to announce the series, particularly because of its unconventional themes.
“ABC Family is synonymous with groundbreaking storytelling and iconic characters,” he said in a statement. “[This] will bring the same depth, heart, close relationships and authenticity that our viewers have come to expect and, will pair nicely with our already established pop culture hits.”
Plus having JLo’s name in the credits certainly won’t hurt. Hopefully Ms. Producer will drop by for at least one Fosters cameo before season one is up.
