Deadline broke the news yesterday that the star of the sequel to giant-Jaegers-vs.-monsters film Pacific Rim will star John Boyega, last seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Guillermo Del Toro, who directed the original Pacific Rim, will serve as a producer while Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight takes over direction.
Boyega’s character will be playing the son of Stacker Pentecost, the Jaeger pilot and military commander played by Idris Elba in the original Pacific Rim. Jaegers, of course, are gigantic robotic fighting machines built to combat aliens called Kaiju who are arriving on Earth via a portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
Boyega confirmed the news on Twitter:
I'll be taking on the Pacific Rim franchise with Steven S.Deknight directing. Very excited!

As of yet, the Kaiju have yet to comment on their new adversary.
