Khan Bonfils Passes During Theater Rehearsal

British actor Khan Bonfils, known for his work in the Star Wars and James Bond franchises, died unexpectedly Tuesday during rehearsals for a play, according to UK media reports. He was 42. The cause of death is not yet known. Bonfils collapsed while rehearsing the Craft Theatre company’s production of Dante’s Inferno, which was scheduled to open tomorrow at the Rag Factory in East London. A statement on the theatre company’s website says the production will move forward with a replacement for Bonfils, opening two days later on January 10.

“The entire company are in shock,” Craft Theatre spokesman Chris Hislop told The Daily Mail. “There is absolutely severe sadness. It is a real tragedy.”

Bonfils had a limited number of credits over the course of his career but appeared in two of the 20 highest-grossing films of all time: Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999) as Jedi master Saesee Tiin and 2012’s Skyfall. His other credits include Tomorrow Never Dies, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, Batman Begins and Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow.
