Scarlett Johansson has been busy with a range of new films including “Under the Skin” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” By late summer she will be back with “Lucy,” an action-adventure from director Luc Besson.
Besson is known for his hard-as-nails female characters in films including “The Professional” and “La Femme Nikita,” and Johansson’s Lucy seems no less formidable. She initially appears to be at the mercy of drug-smuggling antagonists who use her as a mule. But she gains the advantage when the drugs allow her to access an ever-growing percentage of her brain’s abilities, giving her accidental superpowers.
The plot may sound familiar to people who saw 2011′s “Limitless,” in which Bradley Cooper plays a writer who is able to tap all of his brain power with the help of a mysterious pill.
The film, which also stars Morgan Freeman as a brain scientist, is due in theaters Aug. 8
