Kings of Leon: More Problems Than Just Heat Exhaustion

The Kings of Leon got less than a royal response this weekend after frontman Caleb Followill cut short their Dallas concert Friday night.
About four songs into the 11 they performed, Caleb Followill started complaining about losing his voice. He told the crowd he was feeling ill, saying, “If you guys would please help me sing, I’d love it.” About 50 minutes in, the rocker, 29, said he needed a break. “I’m gonna go backstage for a second and I’m gonna vomit,” he told the audience at the Gexa Energy Pavilion. “I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out and I’m gonna play three more songs.”

After he didn’t return, bassist Jared Followill and guitarist Matthew Followill, stepped up to the microphone. “Caleb’s just a little unfit to play the rest of the show,” one said. “We love you guys so much … I know you guys f–ing hate us. I’m so sorry.”

They added: “It’s really not our fault – it’s Caleb. He can’t play the rest of the show. We will be back as soon as possible.”

But comments later that night seemed to suggest there was another problem at hand. “Dallas, I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am,” Jared Tweeted. “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed.”

On Saturday, he added: “I love our fans so much. I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.”

Later, Nathan also echoed the sentiment. “Ashamed & embarrassed by last nights fiasco,” he Tweeted. “Can’t apologize enough, utterly gutted.”

About a year ago, Kings of Leon had a concert prematurely cut short in St. Louis when some pigeons pooped on the band.

The band is expected to return to its summer tour Tuesday in Tampa, Fla., and has rescheduled two Texas dates for September.
