legendary artist, Carlos Mejia Godoy
La Cuneta, Nicaragua’s darling super-group of Cumbia Sobaquiao, released their second single, Cañambuco, which features legendary Nicaraguan Super-star Carlos Mejia Godoy.
The new single follows, “Báilalo,” first single released in April that is included in the fourth studio album, Cañambuco that is slated to be released, May 19th worldwide and will be supported with several shows in the U.S. and tours Europe and Japan in 2017.
Long recognized within Nicaragua as representing the new generation of Nicaraguan music, La Cuneta came to international prominence when their record “Mondongo” was nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Urban, Rock, or Alternative Album. The announcement of their upcoming release on Round Whirled Records comes as their popularity in Latin America is soaring.
“This record captures the spirit of modern Son Nica and Cumbia with a satirical twist that shows the Gueguense poetic trickster that lurks in every Nicaraguan song,” says Cañambuco’s 8-time Grammy-nominated producer Greg Landau. The album was mixed by Carlos Alvarez (Marc Anthony, Carlos Vives) and mastered by John Greenham (Los Tigres del Norte, Sam Smith).
Cañambuco, is the second single from the new album with same title available on all digital platforms. The first single is accompanied by a music video that will soon be released and an iTunes Latino free download with pre-order. It is also available on Spotify and everywhere else globally.
La Cuneta also announced US tour dates of May 13-28, along with the legendary Nicaraguan singer Carlos Mejía Godoy, recent recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latin Grammys. The tour hits five key Latino markets in the US, and is followed by a 9-country European tour from June 20 through July 24th .
