Forget the theme parks, if want to see a real summer roller coaster look no further than Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. The pop star’s sophomore album has hit some tremendous highs and lows, with sales going from 1.1 million to 174,000 in just one week!
Amazingly Born This Way’’sales have plummeted by 84%, setting a SoundScan record for the steepest drop-off from a platinum album. With such a drastic turn of events, many music bloggers have begun investigating the Gagaphenomenon a little bit closer.
One easy explanation for the meteoric rise of her first-week sales was the promotion held by Amazon.com. For two-days, the popular shopping site sold copies of Born This Way for just 99 cents. Now selling at its much more expensive normal price (and facing some mediocre reviews), it’s quite possible that this Gaga outing will continue to fizzle.
But even if American audiences turn their back on the album, Gaga’s still got plenty of fans overseas. Born This Way is already a #1 smash in countries like England, Japan, Australia, and Brazil
