LeBron James and NBC Team up for New Reality Competition Series

When it comes to primetime reality television, NBC is a contender, but certainly not king.  So now, the broadcast network is looking for some help for new programming from a king (of sorts): LeBron James.

According to ESPN, James and his Springhill Productions group are working on a game show series where teams of two will compete for a big cash prize.  The setup sounds similar to CBS’s long-running and Emmy-draped The Amazing Race, which also features dynamic duos (friends, cousins, fathers and sons, married couples, etc) competing for “life-changing amounts of money,” reportedly reaching seven figures for this new series.

There’s no word yet about what James’ exact involvement will be, or what the competitions will focus on, but he did say to ESPN that: “Me being a part of the game show is just all part of my team doing things that’s outside the box, but also that’s fun for families and people, that any ages can gravitate to.”

The casting website for the as-of-yet-unnamed series — which upon James’ request is first casting in Cleveland and Akron — calls it “a simple game” with “enormous cash prizes.”  As seen on that site, Glassman Media (Average Joe) are also involved with the project, which is currently it the pilot stage.

If the series goes beyond that pilot, though, it won’t be the first time the All-Star has dabbled in television.  James is also the executive producer of Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse — inspired by his life — that will start its second season later this year.  James is also reportedly developing a movie script with Kevin Hart.
