The NBA free agency landscape will be very interesting this summer.
First reported by ESPN’s Chris Broussard and confirmed by The Plain Dealer’s Mary Schmitt Boyer, LeBron James has informed the Miami Heat that will be opt out of his current contract — two more years — and become a free agent.
This does not rule out a return to Miami for LeBron though. Let the rumors start on where James might end up. Cleveland? Los Angeles? New York?
James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh each have two seasons and at least $40 million remaining on the contracts they signed in 2010. James said he and his family love Miami, adding their input and his desire to win will factor in making up his mind, per the Miami Herald.
A photo posted by James’ wife, Savannah, on Instagram late Sunday night drew a quick reaction on social media on a possible return to Cleveland. It was revealed last week that James and Savannah are expecting their third child, a girl.
They already have two boys, LeBron Jr. and Bryce Maximus. There also was a report last week that James had enrolled his sons in an Ohio school for the upcoming year, but it has been debunked.
