M Night Shyamalan Shares Directorial Plans For Split Sequel

“Split,” the story of a man with 23 personalities, earned $14.6 million this weekend at the domestic box office, narrowly beating horror retread “Rings.” “Split” has grossed $98.7 million stateside after three weekends.

Like “On the Waterfront,” “Ordinary People,” and “American Beauty,” “Manchester by the Sea” has the scope and impact of the great best picture winners.

The Philadelphia-based filmmaker has said that “Split” is the second of a trilogy starting with 2000’s “Unbreakable.” He told USA Today he’s “pretty excited” about the outline he’s got so far. “It’s very big, so that scares me a little.”

“Split” was produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions and the director’s Blinding Edge Pictures on a reported $9 million budget. Universal Pictures is distributing the film in North America.
