Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Releases New Single 'Drug Dealer'

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dropped “Drug Dealer,” a new song about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. The song, which features Ariana DeBoo, references a number of famous deaths that have been linked to accidental overdoses including Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Heath Ledger, Whitney Houston, and Prince.

The first verse attacks pharmaceutical companies for prescribing dangerous substances with lyrics like “They said it wasn’t a gateway drug/ My homie was takin’ subs and he ain’t wake up/ The whole while these billionaires stay caked up/ Paying out Congress so we take their drugs/ Murderers who will never face the judge.”

DeBoo joins in for the chorus when she sings, “My drug dealer was a doctor, doctor, doctor, had the plug from big pharma…but it only gave me problems.”

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have written about prescription drugs before, specifically on last year’s “Kevin.” The Seattle rapper himself has been open about his addiction and his journey toward sobriety. He even spoke with President Obama for his documentary about opioid abuse.
