Madonna Received A Cease and Desist Letter For ‘Girls Gone Wild’

Weeks after the Super Bowl, people are still talking about Madonna’s halftime show. Joe Francis, creator of the trashy Girls Gone Wild enterprise, had warned Madonna with a cease and desist letter to not sing her song, also called “Girls Gone Wild,” during her halftime show.

Madonna honored the request and put on an entirely different halftime show instead. Well, now with the release of the song off her MDNA album, she had a decision to make. It seems the singer dropped the letter ‘s’ off the song to make it ‘Girl Gone Wild’ instead. The new lyrics read “Like a girl gone wild/A good girl gone wild.”

I’m sure that makes a world of difference in the recording industry (kinda like Vanilla Ice claiming he didn’t bite the “Ice Ice Baby” bass line from Queen’s “Under Pressure” because he changed one note). But, hey, whatever works.

Joe Francis and Madonna have reached a compromise, and that’s what’s important. Francis stated that his legal team have been working with Madonna’s team on the title change as

“an immediate solution for them to thwart any injunctive relief.”

It took them all day to figure that out? Wow.

Francis added,

“Clearly her label was trying to avoid legal action surrounding the song. But, this is still infringement as far as the law is concerned and we have been in touch with Madonna’s representatives in an effort to resolve this issue.”

Both sides are trying to resolve the issue, as Francis claimed,

“We are Madonna fans and there are a lot of Madonna fans that are Girls Gone Wild fans.”
