How many of you remember the days when all you had to do was hand your child a toy chair or a dollie to keep them entertained. With the advance of technology and the ever growing thirst for knowledge, that is almost a thing of the past. Now our kids want your iPad/tablet or my all-time favorite, “Mom, it’s just YouTube”. But if you had the time to focus on what they were doing at that moment, you would be playing with them yourself. We guess what, there’s an app for that!
LOL. Seriously, Magicflix delivers worry-free parenting and delighted kids. It is a curated video service for kids, 12 years and younger, created by moms for moms who are concerned about safety and learning for their children as they watch videos.
What makes them different than other kid-friendly apps? Magicflix curates videos from around the world to be safe, age-appropriate, and positive – no more mindless entertainment! Magicflix apps are immersive and designed exclusively for kids, with videos across Science, Math, Animals and many more topics.
Sound too good to be true? Well I downloaded the app myself and shared it with my nephews ages 2-9 and watched how they reacted. The younger ones loved flipping around the videos. I loved that they could touch all they wanted and not get into something inappropriate. The older ones enjoyed the music and the science videos. They are already planning on recreating some of the experiments. I loved their enthusiasm at learning something new. Were there any complaints? The short answer, yes. The two main complaints were that there was no fast-forward on the videos. If let’s say they started one video and then switched to another for reference, when they switched back to the original video, it would start from the beginning. The other complaint, “Titi, when are you going get more videos?’ That complaint was easily remedied. Parents can add approved videos to the app and even recommend videos on the MagicFlix website.
Even with this minor “issues”, I would still give this app 5 stars.
