Year after year, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ushers in the most festive time of year, but as the 2016 holiday season approaches, the Grammy-winning icon is admittedly coping with her recent breakup from Australian billionaire James Packer.
During an interview on Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Carey opened up to the comedian (and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient) about the split, which made headlines late in October.
“Now it’s a whole friggen thing,” said Carey, who strutted onto DeGeneres’ set clad in a crimson robe with sparkling diamonds laid atop the plunging neckline of a form-fitting black ensemble underneath. “I think I’m doing well… Everything happens for a reason. Things are the way they are.”
DeGeneres went on to inquire about the performer’s upcoming E! docuseries, Mariah’s World, the new trailer for which shows the singer trying on wedding dresses ahead of her once-planned union with Packer.
“He didn’t want to be in the docuseries at all. And yet he’s in it. You see him,” DeGeneres said.
“Allegedly… that’s what I’m saying,” Carey replied. “It’s kind of difficult to talk about at this moment, so I’m just going to compliment you on these decorations once again, because they are fabulous and I’m here.”
