Marriage Equality's Historic Hearing: Garners New Signs, Tweets, Memes and More

It’s been an exciting month in the fight for marriage equality: Ellen DeGeneres wrote the most Ellen-ish brief ever to the Supreme Court, Hillary Clinton threw her political weight behind same-sex marriage and now two historic cases are underway.

So amid speculation that the SCOTUS will smack down the Defense of Marriage Act (aka DOMA), we’ve decided to round up the best of the best support for same-sex marriage, from those out on the front lines to those backing the cause from behind the computers.

To kick things off? Our favorite signs from those outside the Court. Including, to the left, our absolute favorite: “If God Hates Gay People Then Why Are They So Cute?” A question to ponder as you continue on…

“Jesus had 2 Dads and He turned out fine”

“Judging Gays For Jesus” (10s across the board!)

“Guys, I said I hate figs!”

And sometimes you don’t even need a sign to combat the hate.

Meanwhile, the Internet has been abuzz with talk of marriage equality. One of our favorite finds? This classic Golden Girls episode which seems to sum up the case for allowing gays to marry pretty dang well:

You tell ’em, Sophia!

From retro to modern: Everyone’s favorite grumpy cat can even get behind same-sex marriage.

Elsewhere, supporters changed their default pictures on Facebook, Twitter, etc. to the HRC’s logo (celebs too!), which inevitably inspired some very creative alterations.

There really was something for everyone, too! Geeks:

And what would any news story be without input from Twitter? The tweet that won the Internet yesterday came from a surprising source…Jose Canseco

“ungay and gay how are they not equal humans”

A close follow-up came courtesy of comedian Rob Delaney, an older tweet that found newfound life this week:

“I love gay people. Or as I sometimes call them, ‘people.'”

There are a lot of strong opinions on the subject. So maybe we should all just hear what this Sesame Street kid has to say about what makes up a marriage:

And if you won’t listen to Grover, at least listen to Beyoncé.
