Melissa McCarthy is fed up with struggling to find clothes that fit. Rather than wait for someone else to solve the issue for her, the 41-year-old is taking matters into her own hands and starting a plus-size clothing line.
Just weeks off her Emmy upset, Melissa McCarthy is launching into a new project. The actress, who resorted to designing her own gown for the awards ceremony after searching through “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows,” is striving to make being both plus-size and fashion-forward a reality.
“Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible,” the mother of two tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.”
On body image Melissa McCarthy continues, “The stupid stuff like what I wear or how I look I can’t control, so I just try not to give too much energy to it. At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.”
Up next for the Mike and Molly actress is a trip to Saturday Night Live. Melissa McCarthy admits she broke down in tears after getting the call to take a turn at hosting the show while out shopping with Bridesmaids co-star Annie Mumolo.
“I went into such an embarrassing, weird, inappropriately loud cry,” she recalls . “Annie was running in circles. She thinks something horrible is happening because I’m bent over, literally, in the rug section of Living Spaces wailing.”
Can’t wait to watch, and best wishes to Melissa McCarthy on the clothing line launch!
