Those of you who watch John Stewarts’ “The Daily Show” have probably recognize the newest addition to the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update. He’s been a new correspondent since June and he has had quite a bit of experience working with the SNL cast as one of the shows’ previous writers. That’s right, Michael Che will be joining Colin Jost on Weekend Update.
This will be the first time that the “Update” segment will have two male co-anchors, and Che is the first African-American “Update” co-host.
“Michael is a strong writer, and he’s really funny,” Lorne Michaels, SNL creator and executive producer, said to the New York Times, which first broke the story. “It’s always difficult to make changes and make ‘Update’ different from what’s gone before.”
Despite leaving the position as co-anchor, Cecily Strong will still be part of the show and will be taking part more in upcoming sketches. Most hopefully her “”The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at ….” and her ever classic “Saleswoman Who’s Not a Porn Star Anymore.”
SNL’s 40th season will be kicking off on Sept. 27 with host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande, and we are looking forward to seeing how the new season cast change will turn out.
