Well, it looks like you won’t have to leave the mainland to catch this year’s Miss Universe contest. After months of hyping its Dominican Republic locale, pageant officials have decided to move the event back to good old Las Vegas.
Apparently, the Dominican financial crisis is to blame for the last minute swap. Millions were needed to produce the event and it seems newly-elected President Danilo Medina couldn’t quite round up the cash.
So with three months until kickoff, Miss Universe execs made the quick decision to move the show back to Vegas. Sin City played host to the pageant in 2010, which happened to be the year Tr3s fave Ximena Navarrete took the crown.
The D.R. hadn’t held a Universe pageant since 1977 and, by the looks of things, they won’t again for a very long time. It’s actually a bit of a shame, as the show was certain to boost tourism. Not only that, those Dominican beaches would’ve made a great backdrop for the swimsuit competition.
