Los Angeles, CA (May 18, 2018) — Urban Peruvian artist, Nando Chang releases his debut album, Cholito Samurai today on Universal Music Group’s Machete Records. Chang’s music reflects his thoughts on society, his love for his Peruvian culture and chinese and indigenous heritage, as well as his unconformity with the inequities he has witnessed through his life both in Peru and the United States.

Chang discovered hip-hop when a friend asked if he liked 2Pac. Initially thinking his friend was talking about the Inca warrior Tupac Amaru, Chang had to go a look into Tupac Shakur’s music and he got hooked. Through rap music, Nando Chang developed his English fluency and his main way of expression as a teenager and as an immigrant.

“At that point I only heard Latin rock and I loved the way Gustavo Cerati wrote his lyrics, but when I got into hip hop I understood that the mission of an MC was more than just writing lyrics and then rap music became everything to me”, he says. From that moment, Nando Chang started writing and producing his own pieces.

Tradition and disruption, intelligence and aggression, calm and revelry; all of these dualities and paradoxes would be useful to describe “Cholito Samurai”, the debut album by Peruvian-American rapper Nando Chang.

The first single from Cholito Samurai, “Oro” is a song about the Spanish Empire looking for gold in bloody ways throughout the Americas while “Corre” digs in the fast and busy life of working people both tracks were produced by Beats NDA Hood’s Boris Montalvo. Calle.Vida.Muerte is a powerful song on the album produced by El B from Cuban hip-hop group Los Aldeanos.

Cholito Samurai was mixed by Grammy award winning mixing engineer, Frank “El Medico” Rodriguez (Diplo, Major Lazer, CNCO, Diana Fuentes, 3BallMTY, M.I.S.) and co-produced by Latin Grammy nominated producers, Marthin Chan (Afonico Music) and Boris Montalvo (BeatsNDaHood).

The album is available today at all digital stores. Listen to, “Cholito Samurai” here.
