Its’ 1948 and the Cold War has arrived to Chile. In the Congress, the Senator (and renowned poet) Pablo Neruda (Gnecco) accused the Government of betraying to the Communist Party and is quickly deposed by the President. The head of the police Oscar Peluchonneau (Bernal) is assigned to bring him in.
Neruda tries to flee the country with his wife, the painter Delia del Carril, but he feels obliged to hide, and there is where Neruda writes his collection epic of poems: “Canto General”. The cast includes: Gael García Bernal, Luis Gencco, Mercedes Morán, and has been directed by Pablo Larraín.
In Europe, the legend of the poet pursued by the police grows, and the artists directed by Pablo Picasso cried for his freedom. Neruda sees this fight with his nemesis Peluchonneau as an opportunity to reinvent himself, and undertakes a game of Chase with the inspector, leaving tracks to make their conflict more dangerous and more intimate. In this story of a persecuted poet and his ruthless adversary, Neruda recognizes his own heroic opportunities: the opportunity to become a symbol of freedom and a literary legend.
