Octomom Welfare: Nadya Suleman Probed In Fraud Investigation 1

Uh-oh. Octomom may be in serious trouble with the law.

A source close to Nadya Suleman tells official with the L.A. County Department of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation are probing whether the mother of 14 may have committed welfare fraud.

“I can confirm that the authorities have been in contact with us concerning her income and we have been cooperating,” said the insider.

News of the investigation surfaced after TMZ reported that someone lodged a complaint with WFP&I that Nadya was collecting welfare benefits including food stamps even though she made upwards of $200,000 last year.

Suleman’s 2012 earnings came from such gigs as her starring role in that now infamous porn video, stripping and other publicity stunts. But per California law, Octomom can only get government assistance if she rakes in an income of $119,000 or less. As E! News previously reported, shortly after leaving rehab last fall for anxiety and exhaustion, the 37-year-old went back on the dole.

Our source said that the $200,000 income estimate was “correct.” If law enforcement brings a case, and Suleman is convicted, she risks going to jail for up to three years.
