On Saturday, we reported on the various theories surrounding Facundo Cabral’s murder in Guatemala. And now it looks like the targeted assassination plot is gaining the most credibility. But interestingly, officials are claiming that the intended victim was not Facundo, but rather a Latin American businessman named Henry Fariña.
Fariña and Cabral were riding in the same Range Rover on Saturday morning when out of nowhere they were attacked by armed gunmen. Dozens of shots were fired and Facundo wound up being hit eight times, dying at the scene.Henry received a bullet to the head.
Fariña helped fund the Guatemalan concert that Cabral performed at last week and police feel he holds the key to finding the suspects.
“Everything points to that the attack was directed at him (Fariña), and not the artist,” Guatemalan Interior Minister Carlos Menocal told the press.
Amazingly, Henry survived his gunshot wound. But he is now clinging to life andapparently in a coma. Hopefully, if their theory is correct, the authorities can contact associates of Fariña and get to the bottom of this tragic murder mystery.
