“Earthquake! We’re having an earthquake!” exclaims anchor Chris Schauble during yesterday’s broadcast at KTLA Los Angeles, guiding his co-anchor Megan Henderson under the news desk. Their reaction has gone viral.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that one of the latest video to go viral on YouTube with more than 5 million views features the pair doing exactly what they should during what some are calling L.A.’s St. Patrick’s Day Earthquake, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake that struck just 6 miles north of Beverly Hills at 6:25 a.m. PST.

As the news studio visibly began to slow its shaking, the anchors emerge from under the desk, picking it right back up without missing a beat.

“OK it appears to have stopped,” Schauble says raising his hand in caution. “We’re gonna . . . we’re gonna jump right now to the U.S. Geological Survey. Let’s get right on that right now. That felt very close.”

“Look at our cameras behind us,” says Henderson, gesturing at the studio behind them as it continues to rock.

After being posted to YouTube, the video quickly went viral, gaining over 500,000 views just five hours after being posted, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Although many online viewers reacted by poking fun at the anchors, Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist with the U.S. Geologic Survey, said she commends them.

“I was very proud to see the KTLA anchors going under their desk during the earthquake, that was absolutely the right thing to do,” she said in a separate video.

“People who are laughing at them for doing it – you don’t know at the beginning how big the earthquake’s going to be. You might feel a little silly doing it for the small one, but when the big one happens it means you stay alive. Perhaps the lights come crashing down or whatever. It was a great example they showed to all the Los Angeles area, because it’s what we all should be doing when an earthquake happens.”
