One More Battle Round Left on The Voice

With one more battle round left on The Voice, will the remaining pairs left on the celebrity coaches’ teams combine for more genre-clashing duets?
Emerging last week from the competition were Raquel Castro, 16, on TeamChristina Aguilera, children’s book writer Dia Frampton for Team Blake Shelton, pre-med student Devon Barley for Team Adam Levine, and pig-farm girls Tori and Taylor Thompson for Team Cee Lo Green.

The third battle rounds began with teenage pop singer Castro performingRihanna‘s “Only Girl In the World” against former soccer player Julia Eason. While the coaches thought Eason’s voice may have been technically better, Levine summed it up when he called the petite Castro “all 5-foot-1 crazy.”

Frampton and preacher’s daughter Serabee took on “You Can’t Hurry Love” for Shelton, who had warned vocally elastic Serabee to “keep all the tricks down” while performing. It seems to be a common bit of advice from Shelton, who has told his charges not to over-sing. Sure enough, Serabee was knocked out in favor of a more subdued Frampton.

Choosing a darker theme, Levine made folk singer Rebecca Loebe and Barley duet on Radiohead’s “Creep,” telling the shy Barley, “you’re going to have to access your inner freak.” Apparently, Barley did and won the battle.

Concluding the night, the Thompson singers, more familiar with the country genre, took on Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” against online sensation Kelsey Rey. Green told the girls, “competition doesn’t always come to meet you where you are comfortable.” The pair rose to the challenge and Green chose them over Rey.

The battle rounds conclude Tuesday (10 p.m. ET) on NBC
