Paula Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers, are being sued by a former restaurant employee for sexual harassment.
Lisa Jackson, the complainant, was the former general manager at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Savannah, Georgia, where Paula has several restaurants.
Jackson says she quit in August of 2010 after being subjected to several incidents of sexual harassment. She quit after her physician advised her it was best, since she was experiencing panic attacks and “stress-related health conditions” as a result of the repeated indecent incidents.
According to the lawsuit, Bubba made several sexual inappropriate comments to Jackson, distributed inappropriate pictures to other employees, and watched pornography in their shared office. These are just some of the allegations brought up in the lawsuit, but according to Jackson, there are more.
Jackson claims Paula made some inappropriate comments to her as well. When Lisa was given six months to improve the restaurant, Paula told her,
“Now I’m going to do something I’ve never done. I’m going to put a woman in a man’s job.”
On top of the sexist remarks and harassment, Jackson claims there were some instances of racism as well. Lisa Jackson is white, but she says Paula and Bubba would make racist comments about their African-American employees and made them use the restroom in the back of the restaurant.
Paula and Bubba have not responded for comment.
