Production Starts For Marvel's 2018 Film, 'Black Panther'

Marvel Studios kicked off Phase 3 with Captain America: Civil War and the result had audiences buzzing about the epic airport battle and the long awaited debut of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. However, there was also one other major new character introduced, that being Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa aka Black Panther. The new King of Wakanda played a major role in the story, and he’s just getting started. The character is next headlining his own film, Black Panther, marking the first time a Marvel Cinematic Universe stars an African-American lead.

Director Ryan Coogler has populated the world of Wakanda with more than just T’Challa as his all-star cast continues to grow. The biggest roles have already been filled in the lead up to production, and now thanks to some photos, it has been confirmed that production is underway.

Just Jared has released images of Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross) heading to set in regular attire and scripts in hand. While the photos themselves do not offer up much of a look at how the new additions characters will look, they do give us confirmation that filming is beginning.

With production now underway in Atlanta, the rest of the cast is sure to join. Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger), Forest Whitaker (Zuri), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Sterling K. Brown (N’Jobu), Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Letitia Wright are the remaining confirmed cast members that have yet to be spotted.

Not much about Black Panther‘s story has come out so far, outside of Nyong’o describing a rough version of the plot that included multiple villains and government assistance. The allowance of outside help is precisely where Freeman’s Everett K. Ross will come into play. As revealed in Civil War, Ross is the Deputy Task Force Commander of the JCTC (Joint Counter Terrorist Centre). If Killmonger, M’Baku, and possibly a return of Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) are plotting to try and overtake Wakanda or have some larger villainous plot, the JCTC would absolutely become involved. As the organization was clearly backing the Sokovia Accords, it should be interesting to see if they discover that The Winter Soldier is secretly being held there.

With production underway, further chances for new set photos from Black Panther are likely to follow, so stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates as they hit.
