“That’s So Raven” is returning to Disney Channel, along with star Raven-Symone, the company announced Thursday.
The spinoff of the sitcom which ran from 2003 to 2007 will feature Raven Baxter as a grown woman, now with kids of her own. The daytime talk show host will star in and also executive produce the new series.
Consequently, Raven-Symone is leaving “The View,” exiting at some point in December.
In the new show’s pilot, Raven is now a divorced mother to two pre-teen kids (a son and daughter), one of whom has inherited her ability to catch glimpses of the future.
“Raven’s brilliant style of fearless comedy was a driving force for Disney Channel’s success around the world,” said Disney Channel EVP of Original Programming Adam Bonnett in a statement. “Her performance in ‘That’s So Raven’ is timeless. We now have our eyes on the future with her, and we’re looking forward to telling more stories for a new generation with an adult Raven Baxter raising her young family.”
Writers on the new Disney Channel sitcom are working on the script and casting for Raven’s kids is revving up, with the network planning to introduce both new and familiar characters.
The original sitcom starred Raven-Symone as a teenager who could see the future, getting into all kinds of mishaps with her friends and family as a result.
Scott Thomas and Jed Elinoff are working on the development of the untitled spin-off series.
