Raven-Symone may be proud to talk about her sexuality and who she is since coming out in 2013, but that doesn’t mean she wants people to think that’s all she’s about. If it was up to her, everyone would just exist simply as humans — and wouldn’t a world like that be amazing?
“I don’t want to be labeled gay,” Raven told Oprah Winfrey when she sat down for her Where Are They Now? special on Sunday (October 5), according to People. “I want to be labeled as a human who loves humans. I’m tired of being labeled.”
And can we blame her? Since Raven first showed her support of the overturning of the Defense of Marriage act last summer, thereby announcing she is gay in the process, many have undoubtedly focused on that particular part of who she is as a person. Unsurprisingly, the former That’s So Ravenstar didn’t appreciate that one bit.
“I am a light being made from love,” the 28-year-old said at the time. “And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life.”
Today, she feels the same way — and she’s holding her ground when it comes to taking her private life public.
“I will say that I’m in … an amazing, happy relationship with my partner, a woman,” Raven said. “On the other side, my mother and people in my family, they’ve taught me to keep my personal life to myself as much as possible. I try my best to, you know, hold the fence where I can, but I am proud to be who I am and what I am.”And if she’s happy, we’re good with that.
