The British Royal Family has released the long list of stars who are on the Queen’s New Year Honours list. Actor John Hurt and actresses Joan Collins and Kristin Scott Thomas are among the honorees.
Hurt will be knighted for his “services to drama.” The actor is best known for his role in Alien and starred in Snowpiercer this year. Hurt was nominated for Oscars for The Elephant Man and Midnight Express.
Collins is best known for her role on Dynasty, but she will be made a dame for her services to charity. As the BBC notes, Collins has been involved with the PSPCC, Action for Sick Children, National Centre for Learning Disabilities and the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice.
She is “delirious, thrilled, excited and very honoured,” she told the BBC. “There’s nothing to compare to being a Dame and getting that kind of accolade from my country and my Queen,” she added. “I am very patriotic and quite a Royalist so it is extraordinary.”
Thomas is being recognized for her contribution to drama. She’s best known for starring in The English Patient, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She was recently seen in Ralph Fiennes’ The Invisible Woman.
James Corden will receive an Order of the British Empire. The Into The Woods actor told the BBC that his family is “very proud.” He will be taking over The Late Late Show on CBS next year.
Actress Sheridan Smith will also receive an OBE.
Others being made Dames because of their contribution to the arts include poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, TV host Esther Rantzen and fashion designer Mary Quant.
