Rosie O'Donnell Joins Cast For Showtime Series 'SMILF'

Nemeses Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump each have a reason to celebrate — they’ve both scored new jobs this week!

On Tuesday night, the United States — and the rest of the world — watched as former Apprentice host Trump was elected the 45th President of the Unite States. Among the citizens who watched in eager anticipation to see if Secretary Hillary Clinton would pull ahead of the businessman–turned–GOP nominee was O’Donnell, who has had a longstanding feud with the new President-elect that included numerous heated Twitter exchanges throughout Trump’s 2016 political campaign.

But although O’Donnell, 54, expressed her disdain at the election of Trump to the White House on Twitter, a new TV role lies ahead of her.

Showtime announced Wednesday that the veteran actress has joined the comedy pilot, SMILF. Set in Boston, the pilot will take a raw look at Bridgette (played by Frankie Shaw), a single, twentysomething whose desires for relationships, sex and a career collide with the realities of young, single motherhood.

O’Donnell has joined the pilot in the role of Tutu, Bridgette’s mother, who is oblivious to social convention and shows up for her daughter and grandson as best as she possibly can. The Showtime pilot has also cast three guest stars: Alex Brightman as Jess, Kyle Vincent Terry as Ben and Graham Rogers as David.

Based on Shaw’s Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short film of the same name, she will star, write, produce and direct the semi-autobiographical pilot alongside Michael London, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

After winning the election, Trump delivered his victory speech in the wee hours of the morning in New York on Wednesday. “I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past — of which there were a few people — I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so we can unify our great country,” he said.
