Last year Ryan Reynolds jokingly pitched Deadpool as an Oscars contender. Because of the movie’s strong showing during awards season, there is a very real chance that Deadpool could earn itself a Best Picture nod this year. Naturally, Ryan Reynolds was quick to give the Academy a nudge.

Deadpool is certainly deserving of a nomination. It won’t win, but a nomination would be enough considering the fact that Academy voters traditionally ignore mainstream movies when it comes to the Best Picture honor. I mean, even The Dark Knight wasn’t nominated. Maybe this is the year that a superhero movie finally breaks through.
