Sarah Hyland hadn’t shared anything about the turbulent breakup with ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop, since she requested a restraining order last month.
On 6 October, The Modern Family actress was granted a three-year restraining order against Prokop after assaulted her and threatened her life as well as her dog’s, Barkley Bixby. Prokop, who she met while auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008 and later starred with in the Disney Channel film Geek Charming in 2011, has now been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog at all times.
According to legal documentation of the case, the Geek Charming actor allegedly “terrorized [Sarah] both verbally and physically during the last 4 years of [their] relationship.” Hyland claimed that her then-boyfriend had choked her during an argument, recalling that “his grip was so tight that [she] could not breathe or speak.” and had “relentlessly bombarded [her]with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats”
Recently guest starring on The Meredith Viera Show, Meredith spoke of her own experience of domestic violence with the now 23-year-old says that “people have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today.”
Hyland also shared two quotes that she’s particularly grateful for during (DURING WHAT). “One is a Dylan Thomas poem,” she explained. “‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,’ which is one of my favorite poems. It just strikes a chord in me. And also, Robert Frost: ‘The only way out is through.’”
She shares that while her ordeal wasn’t the best experience to go through, it was just something she had to go through to become the woman she is today.
The ex-couple had been together for 5 years before their break-up in August.
