Last year, Selena Gomez revealed she had lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can wreak serious havoc on your body. Now, the singer has announced that she will be taking some time off from her Revival World Tour to deal with depression and anxiety, according to a report from People.
“I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,” she tells People. “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
By speaking out about her issues, Selena is bringing to light the importance of prioritizing your health. “I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best,” she tells People. “I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
According to the Lupus Foundation of America, the disease affects more than 1.3 million women in the U.S. and can cause everything from skin rashes to severe joint pain to depression and anxiety. There’s no cure for the disease, and current courses of treatment can vary widely from person to person. We’ll be sending good vibes to Selena as she focuses on recovering.
