Singer Prince Takes A Break During Melbourne Concert To Dedicate Olf Flame & Former Collaborator 'Vanity' Follwing Her Death This Week

Prince dedicated a performance of “Little Red Corvette” to onetime protégé Vanity at a Melbourne show Monday, just a day after the singer died at the age of 57.

Aside from performing, Prince — who, news.com.au reports, found out about Vanity’s death just before boarding the stage — also shared stories about his former collaborator and ex-girlfriend. “Her and I used to love each other deeply,” he said at one point. “She loved me for the artist I was, I loved her for the artist she was trying to be.”

Before pursuing a solo career, Vanity led Vanity 6, an R&B trio that released a self-titled album in 1982. “She and I would fight,” Prince continued. “She was very headstrong ‘cause she knew she was the finest woman in the world. She never missed an opportunity to tell you that.”

The Australian news website also reported that Prince replaced “Electra” with “Vanity” in 1985’s “The Ladder,” where he sings, “Now this king, he had a subject named Electra, who loved him with a passion uncontested.”

Prince is currently on his Piano and a Microphone tour, where he’s performing without a backing band.
