Filming for the next X-Men film will begin soon, Jean Grey actress Sophie Turner has revealed.
When asked by Hey U Guys on the red carpet at the British Academy Film Awards (see all the BAFTA winners here) about what she has planned next, the X-Men and Game of Thrones star said, “We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8.”
Despite the lukewarm reception garnered by X-Men Apocalypse, Turner’s statement essentially confirms that 20th Century Fox is moving ahead with the franchise using at least some of the currently established cast.
It’s also worth noting that Production Weekly recently listed X-Men: Supernova as the studio’s next alleged film, with the working title “Teen Spirit” and the previously rumored Dark Phoenix storyline. “Teen Spirit” is likely a reference to the ’90s Nirvana song Smells Like Teen Spirit, which supports the notion that this new film will be set 10 years after Apocalypse, which likewise took place a decade after X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Several months ago, it was reported that the X-Men film series “will be reconfigured,” with franchise producer and writer Simon Kinberg working on a new script.
