In the eight months he’s spent away from television, taking a well-deserved break and then prepping his version of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert has become a master of bite-size Twitter humor and web videos. You need no more evidence than this tweet, announcing the high-profile guest who will kick of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s first episode on September 8.
George Clooney will be my first-ever #LSSC guest on September 8th! Could one of you let him know?

Clooney, consider yourself informed.
The first guest on a talk show doesn’t really tell us anything about the show to come—Tom Hanks andMila Kunis kicked off James Corden’s own CBS show earlier this year primarily because they’re fun celebrities and easy to talk to. But it’s hard not to wonder if Colbert’s recent past as a political master satirist, and Clooney’s own political concerns, make this match more than just a happy chat between two famous people. Whether or not Colbert will bring any political commentary to The Late Show is one of many burning questions we have about his future, and Clooney’s presence may give us our answer. Or maybe the two will just chat it up and play a silly game. Either way, we’ll watch.
