Steve-O From Jackass' Being Charged for Deadly Misconduct After Bridge Flip: Viral Vid

The San Antonio Police Department plans to charge Steve-O, “Jackass” star and stand-up comedian, with deadly conduct following a back flip last week off the Commerce Street bridge at Rivercenter mall.

A person who appears to work at Rio San Antonio Cruises, the River Walk’s tour barge operator, told police it appeared Steve-O, 39, wanted to jump into the San Antonio River in front of an oncoming barge filled with passengers. When the employee exited the Rio San Antonio Cruises office, the reality TV and movie star had already jumped and landed in the shallow waters.

The witness told police that when Steve-O, born Stephen Gilchrist Glover, climbed out of the water, he was hounded for autographs, but the star said he had to jet because “he needed to leave the location before the police arrived!,” the report reads.

A viral video of Steve-O’s stunt shows a barge docked on the east bank of the river, but does not show a barge emerging from under the bridge.

Post by Steve-O.

“Charges will be filed at large against the suspect involved in this incident,” police spokeswoman Romana Lopez wrote in an email.

Deadly conduct, as defined in the Texas Penal Code, is when “a person commits an offense if he recklessly engages in conduct that places another in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.” Swimming in the San Antonio River in the downtown area is a municipal offense that yields a $500 fine.

Earlier this week, Steve-O spoke out.

“They’ve given no indication that people shouldn’t jump, and done nothing to warn anyone about the serious dangers of that shallow water,” Steve-O told TMZ this week. “Very irresponsible, indeed.”

An interview request to Steve-O, sent via Facebook two days ago, has not been answered.

On March 14, Steve-O did a gainer flip, or back flip, off the Commerce Street bridge next to Rivercenter mall into the shallow waters below. If it sounds stupid, that’s exactly how the stars of “Jackass” make their living.

On Facebook, Steve-O admitted he didn’t realize the water was only a few feet deep:

I did a good deed today by proving it’s not safe to jump off this bridge at the San Antonio River Walk. It’s shallow– I hit the bottom when I landed this gainer flip. #notagoodidea #yeahdude #steveo
