'Sweet Nothing': Florence & The Machine & Calvin Harris Unveil Bouncy House Track

Florence + The Machine and Calvin Harris unveiled their new single on BBC’s Radio 1 today, and it follows the familiar pattern of taking love-strung vocals and layering them over a bouncy, ever-building beat.

Those looking for soaring, “You’ve Got the Love”-style vocals will be disappointed. Florence Welch never really strains herself, apparently saving her typically athletic singing for tracks that won’t primarily be used at dance music festivals.

It’s not the first time the two have worked together. Harris — he of “We Found Love” fame among top 40 fans and “Feel So Close” superstardom among dance music listeners — contributed a solid remix of Florence + The Machine’s “Spectrum.”

A touch of bad news for Flo + The Machine fans: The singer recently told Style (via NME) that she planned to take a year off before beginning work on her next album. She suffered a vocal chord injury early this year, but has recovered the octaves she was worried she had lost.

Florence Welch is no stranger to dance music. “You’ve Got the Love” was famously remixed by Mark Knight, and the result was supported by A-list DJs like Swedish House Mafia, who played the song during their landmark Madison Square Garden concert.

Listen to the track below and kindly let us know what you think in the comments. Also, it’s Flo’s birthday (Tuesday).
