Beyonce’s surprise album will not be available at Target. The self-titled album, which was released on Friday, Dec. 13, is expected to top the charts, but the giant retailer reportedly has decided not to carry the album, which is currently exclusively available on Apple Inc.‘s iTunes store.
A spokesperson for the brick and mortar retail chain told Billboard, “At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections.”
“While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titled album ‘Beyonce.’”
Target representatives did not immediately return a request for comment.
The latest “visual album” by Beyonce set a record for iTunes after selling more 828,773 copies worldwide in its first three days.
The singer announced her latest release, which features 14 songs and 17 videos, by posting a trailer about her new work on her official Instagram account, and social media and word of mouth helped make it a chart topper.
