MIAMI – March, 2019 – Telemundo continues to stoke the fires of its hotly anticipated original series “La Reina Del Sur” Season Two with today’s release of the series trailer. Showcasing the return of star Kate del Castillo in her iconic role as Teresa Mendoza, “La Reina del Sur” Season Two is scheduled to premiere Monday, April 22nd, 2019 @ 10pm/9C. A captivating mix of human drama, thrilling action, and high stakes emotion, the cinematic trailer offers an exciting preview as to what audiences can expect from the continuation of Telemundo’s most successful series ever.
“We are excited to finally let our viewers have a first look at our biggest and most ambitious production ever in Spanish-language television,” said Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Global Studios. “The first season of ‘La Reina del Sur’ was a groundbreaking triumph and redefined Spanish-language television. We are pulling out all the stops to make sure the second season exceeds all of our audience’s expectations.”
The series’ international cast also includes Italian actor Raoul Bova (“Under the Tuscan Sun,” “All the Roads Lead to Rome,” Ferzan Ozpetek’s “Facing Windows”), Paola Nuñez (“The Son,” “Reina de Corazones,” “Amor en Custodia”), Antonio Gil (“The Plague,” “Quantum of Solace,” “The Merchant of Venice,” and “Chocolat”), and Mark Tacher (“La Hija Del Mariachi,” “Abismo de Pasión,” “Curse of the Mayans”).
“I can only say the best is yet to come,” said del Castillo about the just-released material. “It’s been a breathtaking journey making this amazing series. We traveled to many countries to best capture the universality of Teresa Mendoza’s story. With this sneak peek, you will see that we are treating the second series like a feature film, with amazing production value and a grittier edge that take it to the next level of entertainment. I can’t wait for audiences to see how it all comes together.”
Shot on location in eight countries, the return of “La Reina del Sur” is set eight years since powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappeared into the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program after bringing down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. Hers is now a life of total anonymity in Italy as “Maria Dantes,” peacefully raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan village of Massa Marittima. However, her life takes an unexpected turn and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
Created by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, “La Reina del Sur” is written by Roberto Stopello, Juan Marcos Blanco, Miguel Ferrari, and Jose Miguel Nuñez. Marcos Santana is Executive Producer and Showrunner of the series, with Telemundo’s Martha Godoy and AG Studios’ Rodrigo Guerrero as Executive Producers. “La Reina del Sur” Season 2 is a co-production between Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix. Telemundo has the exclusive rights in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and Netflix has the exclusive rights for the rest of the world for OTT.
