The Queen Goes Green in Ireland

Queen Elizabeth II made both history and headlines Monday with a visit to Ireland that’s been a long time coming.
Following years of the country’s bloody past with her native England, the Queen, 85, traveled to Ireland, becoming the first British monarch to do so in a century. (Her grandfather visited 100 years ago.)

Arriving in a bright green jacket and matching hat, Her Majesty was undeterred by a bomb scare that was discovered on a bus near Dublin just hours before her visit. In London on the same day, Scotland Yard also had news of a bomb threat, believed to be from republican dissidents in Northern Ireland.

According to the L.A. Times, “The Queen is expected to spend four days touring the country, including a stop at a stud farm in southeast Ireland, reflecting her interests and skills as an accomplished horsewoman.”

Her trip was first announced last year.
