This Weekend Will See A Price Cut For New Amazon Prime Subscribers

Those who have been tempted to sign up for Amazon Prime but were put off by the $99 annual fee might want to consider joining this weekend.

The company is cutting the subscription price down to $73 for new members in celebration of its two wins at the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. The discount starts this Friday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. PT and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Prime allows access to a wide variety of perks, including Amazon’s streaming video service, free two-day shipping on certain products, Amazon’s Prime Music streaming app, unlimited photo storage with Amazon Cloud Drive, and early access to deals on Amazon.com.

The company also separately offers a free trial for Amazon Prime, but members must remember to turn off membership renewal to avoid being charged once the trial duration runs out.

Amazon’s original series Mozart in the Jungle wont the Golden Globe Award for Best Musical or Comedy Series, while lead actor Gael García Bernal also took home the title of Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his performance in the show. That means Amazon’s series won more awards than Netflix’s shows, which took home no Golden Globes.
