Some people refuse to believe Tupac Shakur is actually dead – and the rapper’s flawlessly orchestrated, incredibly realistic-looking hologram performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Sunday night did nothing to persuade them.
Appearing shirtless in jeans, the legendary rapper – who was murdered in 1996 at the age of 25 – shouted on a microphone, “Yeah, you know what the [expletive] this is! What up Dre? What up Snoop? What the [expletive] is up, Coachella?”
He then paced around the stage and went into a performance of his classic hit “Hail Mary.” The shockingly realistic likeness was achieved with a combination of live footage, wire framing and CGI projected onto a special foil, Forbes reports. Some special voice-over work was employed as well.
Joined a couple minutes later by Snoop Dogg (in the flesh), ‘Pac and his pal went into their collaboration, “2 of Americaz Most Wanted.”
At the end of the performance, to a crowd of screaming fans, Shakur’s hologram vanished into thin air.
